At King James’s School we are proud of our distinguished history, working closely with families over many generations to provide a high-quality education, in a caring and supportive environment. We aim to achieve this through providing all students, regardless of their background, with a rigorous and academic education, supported by outstanding pastoral care.
"The school is a caring place in which pupils feel safe and secure. Pupils, parents and carers told us about the family atmosphere in the school. We agree. Pupils are well looked after, and they get on well with their teachers. Pupils value the support they receive, from their teachers and the pastoral support staff. Pupils know there is always someone willing to help them out should they or their friends have any worries." (Ofsted, Nov 2019)
Pastoral Principles
We believe that, by getting the basics right, every child has the greatest possible chance of success.
For us the basics are as straightforward as ABC:
You can't learn if you are not in school. Our students enjoy coming to school and, as a consequence, our attendance levels are significantly higher than the national average. We expect every child to attend school every day.
We believe that every child (and adult) should always try to be the best version of themselves that they can be. We expect good manners and kindness to be shown to everyone connected to our school at all times. Whilst we support and care deeply for all, we are not afraid to challenge behaviour that falls below our expectations.
Feeling part of a community is critical to the King James's approach. Whilst our circumstances have changed significantly in recent years, we want our students to feel a sense of belonging, we want them to develop socially and to excel academically, so that they can be ambassadors for the school and lead fulfilling lives after KJS
