Currently the Humanities faculty comprises History, Geography, RE, PSHE, and Sociology. The current members of the team are:

Accommodation and Resources

The department is housed in several dedicated rooms. The faculty also has a wide variety of resources:

  • Textbooks
  • Interactive Whiteboard in each room
  • DVD / video clip resource bank
  • Artefacts
  • Flexi-cams
     

Time Allocation

The school operates a 5-period day, over a two-week timetable.
In Years 7-9, all students have three lessons of History and Geography and one lesson each of Religious Studies and PSHCE per fortnight.

In Year 10 and 11, each GCSE subject has 5 lessons per fortnight. Year 10 and 11 have one lesson of PSHCE per fortnight.

 

Schemes of Work Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 students study a wide variety of topics in History and Geography. PSHCE.RE lessons cover all statutory requirements as well as issues that are closely related to our context.

At Key Stage 4, students of History and Geography currently follow the AQA GCSE syllabus, while Sociology follows the Eduqas/WJEC syllabus. Each option receives five lessons over the fortnight.

 

Achievements

Exam grades at GCSE have been consistently excellent over the last few years achieving some of the best grades across the school. 

 

Extra-Curricular Activities

We offer 'Period 6' revision to History, Geography, and Sociology GCSE students
We also run an after-school faculty homework club
Geography run a number of field trips, and in recent years we have run an overseas trip to the Belgium battlefields.
